Mascot Fire Station Centenary, 1913-2013

Robert Wallace, Ron Hoenig MP, Commissioner  Greg Mullins, George Glinatsis unveiling the Centenary Plaque
Today I attended the Mascot Fire Station Centenary, 1913-2013. Greg Mullins, Commissioner of Fire & Rescue NSW, Station Officer Robert Wallace and George Glinatsis Deputy Mayor of Botany Bay City Council took the guests on a historical journey through time speaking about the history of the station, the fire officers, the infrastructure and the changes in technology and Fire truck transport.

The Commissioner had said he had seen and read about the many changes that had happened through generations, however, through all the changes, one thing did not change and that was the dedication and commitment of the fire officers to their community.

I had the honour in joining the Commissioner, Fire Station Officer Robert Wallace and the Deputy Mayor in the unveiling of the plaque to complete the centenary celebrations.

It was delightful to see Mascot Public School Choir perform the national anthem and also sing a song to help with the celebrations.

The event had a real community spirit to it and I commend the Fire Officers at Mascot Fire Station and Fire & Rescue NSW for putting on such a wonderful event.

Our local Fire Officers at Mascot do a wonderful job, they risk their lives every day to ensure that our community is safe. For me, the event was a wonderful celebration, however, most importantly a time to remember the fire officers that lost their lives and fought to protect our local community though all the years.

I would like to thank Fire & Rescue NSW, Commissioner Mullins, Deputy Mayor George Glinatsis, Mascot Fire Station Officers, NSW Police, Botany Historical Trust, Sydney Airport Corp Ltd, Mascot Public School, Museum of Fire and the many community members that came along today and made the event one to remember.
