Jewish House 2013 Gala Fundraising Dinner - "A night in New York"

It was a wonderful evening last week when I attended the 2013 Jewish House Gala Fundraising Dinner. “A night in New York” as the evening was entitled. More than 500 people attended the Grand Ballroom of the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, all there to support this wonderful organisation that provides crisis intervention and prevention to many thousands of people suffering from depression, alcoholism, domestic conflict, unemployment, business difficulties, homelessness and other problems.

As Jewish House says; “Our purpose is to assist people in their time of crisis with immediate intervention, crisis accommodation, Rapid Rehousing and various counseling and referral services. Beyond the short term period of crisis intervention our strategy is to use pragmatic and innovative programs to prevent further crises and to facilitate the transition and integration of our clients into the community to lead satisfying lives.”

Lead by inspirational Rabbi Mendel Kastel as CEO, Jewish House has for 30 years of its operations has succeeded beyond what the Jewish community aspired to achieve through Jewish House. Sydney’s Jewish community decided it needed to service the broader community, regardless of denomination, and has so by providing crisis accommodation to those in need.

The evening attended by so many representatives of state, federal and local government. All there recognising the amazing achievements of Jewish House, and encouraging financial support for this outstanding organization. To the CEO, board and staff of Jewish House, thank you for what you do for the entire community. You do the Jewish community proud.
