I was honoured recently to represent the State Opposition Leader at the Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park for those 23,000 Australian men and women who serviced in the Boer War. The day also celebrated the 111th Anniversary of the signing of The Treaty of Vereeniging that ended the South African War on 31 May 1902.

In the presence of Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, Governor of NSW, General Peter Cosgove AM MC delivered the commemorative address. In attendance was The Hon. Victor Dominello representing the Premier, Senator Matt Thistlethwaite representing the Prime Minister andThe Hon. Philip Ruddock representing the Federal Opposition Leader. They were joined by descendants and relatives of the Boer War veterans and representatives of regimental associations and schools whose members served in the Boer War.

The ceremony was organised by the NSW Committee of the National Boer War Memorial Association.
